Ira Byock: Live Well, Die Well - How to improve care through the end of life will be the focus of Live Well, Die Well, a community conversation with Ira Byock, chief medical officer of the Providence Institute for Human Caring. Byock has authored three books, including “The Best Care Possible” (2012) in which he tackles the crisis surrounding serious illness. He also wrote “The Four Things that Matter Most” (2004), used widely as a counseling tool in palliative care, hospice programs and pastoral care, and “Dying Well” (1997), a standard in the field of hospice and palliative care. Striders - A community walking and exercise program promoting fitness, fun, friends and health education since 1995. Meets Mondays and Wednesdays, September through May, from 7:45-8:30 a.m. at the Spokane Valley YMCA, 2421 N. Discovery Place. Led by certified instructors, the classes emphasize strength, stretching, and balance. Miles walked individually are records and awards are presented at five awards meetings each year which feature health-related speakers. Cost is $15 per year and $2 for each exercise class attended. Therapeutic Recreation for Disabled Adults - Recreational, educational and social activities for people with disabilities.
