Citing record-setting success, the organizers of the Chinese Lantern Festival in Riverfront Park are extending the event’s run by two weeks.

The festival will now end on Nov. 15; it was originally scheduled to finish on Nov. 1.

The first few weeks of the festival have surpassed projections “by a large amount,” according to a news release from Visit Spokane. Sam Song, acting director of Riverfront Park, said nearly 50,000 people have visited since it opened on Sept. 26.

Jessie Li, of Sichuan Tianyu Cultural Transmission Co., Ltd., which produces the festival, said in the release, “We have never had as much initial success in a city as we have had in Spokane.”

Ticket prices and festival hours will remain the same. The paper cutting and calligraphy displays will not be extended. For more information visit spokanelanternfestival.com.
