CBS Sports names Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer Preseason Player of the Year

Gonzaga men’s basketball player Kyle Wiltjer was named the CBS Sports Preseason Player of the Year.

CBSSports.com made the announcement on Tuesday.

Last year as a redshirt junior, Wiltjer led the Bulldogs to a 35-3 record and an Elite Eight appearance. He averaged a team-high 16.8 points per game. Wiltjer, a Portland, Oregon, native who played for Kentucky during his freshman year before transferring to Gonzaga, scored in double figures in 30 of GU’s 38 games. His season-high was 45 Feb. 19 at Pacific, the third-highest single-game total in GU men’s history.

The Bulldogs open the season at home on Nov. 7 in an exhibition game against Eastern Oregon.
