Obituary: Keno, Albert Peter

Age 92

KENO, Albert Peter (Age 92) Lifetime resident of Fairfield, Washington passed on to the roll call above of his Lord and Master on May 12, 2015 in Fairfield.

Albert was born August 22, 1922 to Roger and Nettie (Smallwood) Keno on his grandparents George and Mary Smallwood’s Centennial Homestead.

He was the namesake of his paternal grandfather Albert Peter Keno of Ilion and Mohawk, New York.

The family homestead in Fairfield where Albert spent most of his 92 yrs has been in the family since 1879.

Albert was a graduate of Fairfield High School, class of 1941 and attended Gonzaga University where he studied Electrical Engineering.

He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and entered the V-12 officers training program at the University of Washington.

With his training in electrical engineering he was selected for the advanced radar school where he was an advanced student and instructor.

When the atomic bomb brought an end to the war, Albert was training for the invasion of Japan.

He was discharged from the Navy in April of 1946 and returned to farm with his parents and younger brother George.

Albert was an active member of the Triangle Grange, an avid supporter of the South East Spokane County Historical Society and Museum and the Farm Commodity Association.

He is survived by his brother; George Keno of Fairfield, WA., Charles Keno of Spokane Valley, WA.

and his sister Anna May Ellis of Latah, WA.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his his parents, his brother Frank Keno of Moses Lake, WA.

and his sister Grace Trescott of Spokane Valley, WA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Care, S. 310 Hilltop Ln., Fairfield WA, 99012 where he spent his last years after suffering a severe stroke, the South East Spokane County Historical Society or the Fairfield Museum.

A memorial service will be held in his honor and dedicated to his Lord and Master at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church on S. McNeil Ave., in Fairfield.

A reception will follow at the church.

His urn will be buried with military honors next to his parents and uncle Frank Keno at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford, WA.
