Randy Mann: Above-average temps to continue in March

In the Inland Northwest, we’ve seen record dryness, record rainfall and record warmth since the middle of February.

From Feb. 11 through March 13 only 0.04 inches of moisture was reported at the Spokane International Airport. However, last weekend, 1.50 inches of rain fell, with 1.33 inches of that falling on Sunday. That broke the record for March 15, which was 1.18 inches recorded in 2012.

A few days before the record rain, Spokane had a record high. On March 10, the airport reached 67 degrees, breaking the record of 65 set in 1892.

The average temperature for February was 6.2 degrees above normal. The trend is continuing this month as readings are about 5 degrees above normal.

After about six weeks of dryness, we’re now expecting six weeks of wetter-than-normal weather across the Inland Northwest. We’re already off to a fast start with the big rains that fell last weekend with more showers on tap by this weekend.
