Obituary: Baker, James Francis, Sr.
Age 97
He was born to Laura and Clarence Baker on November 25, 1917 in Elk, Washington on the family farm.
He is survived by his wife Ferne of 72 years, five children: Dorcas Jones (Sandy), Jerry Baker (Cathie), James Baker Jr., Bonnie Cherry (Bob) and Loretta Sicilia (Stan); 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-greats.
He was a WWII Vet serving with the naval SeaBees in Tinian and Okinawa.
He was a member of the VFW #3067 and the F.O.E.
#3564 both in Deer Park.
He was a retired certified welder for Kaiser Mead for 34 years and a Jack-of-all-Trades.
In his younger years, he played his accordion in many bands around the Deer Park/Elk area at grange dances.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and motorcycle riding up at his brother’s cabin near Sherman Creek.
In later years he and Ferne enjoyed playing the slots at nearby casinos.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 15th at 2:30 PM, at the Deer Park Eagles Lodge, W. 12 South Ave. with a potluck to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James’s name to Spokane Hospice House.
