River Park Square to expand to the east

River Park Square in downtown Spokane plans to expand to the east with a two-story addition at Main Avenue and Wall Street, according to a news release. The 10,000-square-foot building will house an Urban Outfitters retail store. To accommodate the square footage required by the Urban Outfitters chain, the new building will expand onto Wall Street, the release said. River Park Square’s owner, Centennial Properties, “is submitting an application to the City of Spokane requesting vacation of 17 feet of right of way adjacent to its east property line on Wall Street,” the release said. That includes 10 feet of sidewalk and 7 feet of Wall Street. Wall would remain open for two-way traffic, the release said. “Centennial Properties will pay the city 100 percent of the assessed value of the vacated right-of-way,” it said. Centennial Properties is an affiliate of Cowles Co., which also publishes The Spokesman-Review. Urban Outfitters is a retail chain with about 130 stores; the Spokane location will be its first in Eastern Washington. The parent company, Urban Outfitters Inc., also owns Anthropologie, another retailer that recently signed a lease for space just south of River Park Square, in the West 809 building. That building also is owned by Centennial Properties. The city vacated a portion of Post Street for the $100 million redevelopment and expansion of River Park Square that was finished in 1999.
