Classes and workshops

Painting with Watercolor: Participants will learn to handle brushes, learn about textures, tools, colors and techniques with instructor Lisa Soranaka. Demonstrations of advanced techniques will be available for more experienced students. All supplies included. Spokane Art School Spring Break Art Classes for Kids Zentagles: Students ages 8-10 will create a fun project using Zentangles designs with Tresia Oosting. April 7 and 10, 1-2:30 p.m. $18. Creature Scultpure: High school-age students will be introduced to a variety of sculpture media including sewing in 3-D, whittling, sculpting and felting with Sally Jablonsky. April 6 and 10. 3-4:30 p.m. $75, plus $15 lab fee. Comics with Kids!: Students in fifth, sixth and seventh grade will look at comics and at the different choices that go into making them. Then, they’ll make comics while keeping those choices in mind with Sally Jablonsky. April 8 and 10, 10 a.m.-noon. $40, plus $10 lab fee.

Artisans at Dahmen BarnWild Women Art Series: Each workshop is taught by a different practicing artist from the region. Each topic is geared to the beginner who wishes to try something new, but those wishing to hone existing skills are welcome. Classes are: Introduction to Watercolor (Sunday), Fused Glass Pendant (March 15), Needle Felted Dryer Balls (March 22) and Paint Scenery with Acrylics (March 29). 1-4 p.m. $25 advanced, $35 day of class. Artworks Spokane, Artworks Garland and Artworks CdA – Classes include Chalk Paint demos, technique workshops, including antiqued mirrors, cabinet rehab and painted glass tablescapes/ wallscapes, style and color workshops, including coastal/ lakeside/cottage style and modern retro style, embellishments and textures, including wood icing, Pinterest-inspired project workshops and three-day immersion workshops. Watercolor/Acrylic Workshop – This two-day workshop for artists of all skill levels is led by Wes Hanson. There will be an hour for lunch (bring a sack lunch or eat out). Limited to 15 students. City of Moscow Arts Commission, the 1912 Center and Heart of the Arts Workshops Basic Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith: Participants age 18 and older will learn the basics of pastel painting. Students provide their own pastels. A set of at least 20-30 Rembrandt, Unison, Schmincke or Sennelier is suggested. The application deadline is Thursday at 5 p.m. After that, applications will be accepted if space is available. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 14-15. $150, covers both sessions, plus cost of supplies. 1912 Center, 412 Third St., Moscow. Experimental Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith: This workshop is for those age 18 and older who have been working in pastels and want to take their work to the next level. Students will provide their own pastels. The application deadline is March 19 at 5 p.m. After that, applications will be accepted if space is available. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 21. $125, plus cost of supplies. Drawing in Color with Dana Aldis: In this four-session workshop, participants age 15 and older will develop their drawing skills and hand-eye coordination while working from observation. Students will learn basic traditional drawing techniques such as line, structure, value/shading and cross-hatching, as well as composition. No experience necessary. All materials will be provided. Students will work at their own pace. The application deadline is April 6 at 5 p.m. After that, applications will be accepted if space is available. 4:30-6 p.m. April 8, 15, 22, 29. $32/per class; $128/all four sessions. Photography in Blue: Cyanotype with Harlan Crichton: Participants age 10 and over will use cyanotype, a nontoxic alternative photographic process, to produce beautiful images. No photography experience is necessary. Participants will have the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind images using found materials, old film, pressed flowers, jewelry or any other relatively flat objects. The application deadline is April 23 at 5 p.m. After that, applications will be accepted if space is available. 10 a.m. April 25. $25.

Christian Youth Theater – North Idaho Winter Classes – CYT-North Idaho is now registering students, ages 6-18, for ongoing 2015 winter classes.
