Salem-Keizer’s Chase Compton too much for Spokane Indians

KEIZER, Ore. – Designated hitter Chase Compton had four hits and drove in two runs to lead the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to a 7-5 win over the Spokane Indians in a Northwest League game Monday night.

A day after getting blanked on five hits by a trio of Spokane pitchers, the Volcanoes piled up 10 hits off five different pitchers.

Logan Webb pitched five innings, allowing four hits and two runs, to earn his first win in two decisions. Caleb Smith earned his first save by striking out the side in the ninth, although he also walked two.

Four pitchers combined to strike out 11 Spokane batters and were aided by three double plays.

Peter Fairbanks (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Julio Pena hit his second home run, a solo shot, to cap a three-run third inning for SK.

LaDarious Clark had two hits for the Indians and Dyland Moore and Connor McKay had solo home runs, but the team went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Both teams are 5-7 and play the rubber game of the five-game series tonight.
