Obituary: Earl, Doris J.
Age 92
She graduated from Newport High School in 1940, where she met her future husband A. Glenn Earl.
They were married for 55 years until his death and lived at their Diamond Lake ranch for as many years.
Doris was a lifetime member of the Diamond Lake Grange #506 joining in 1946.
Doris dedicated her life to the Grange.
She held many offices over the years including, Lecturer, Chaplain, Pomona Officer and District Lecturer where she facilitated the Lectures Department for Washington State Grange Convention that was held in Spokane.
Doris was involved for many years in 4H as a leader, the Pend Oreille County Fair, school activities and she started and kept up the Pamper Room at the Pend Oreille County Fair.
Doris was known throughout the community for her singing voice and she sang at many community functions, weddings and funerals.
Doris wrote poems her entire life, starting with one of her first poems being published in the 1940 Newport High School year book.
Doris belonged to the “Poetry Scribes of Spokane”, in Spokane, WA.
In 2004 she was chosen to write the official poem for the Spokane Lilac Festival and read it at the Davenport Hotel.
Doris’ dedication and love for her family was unconditional.
There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family or friends.
Doris leaves behind three children, Lola Rickey, Newport; Alvin Earl, Newport; and Glenda Wise, Delta, Alabama; and one sister Irma Morrison (106 years) of Kent, Washington; also four grandchildren, Jason Earl, Lacey Reedy, Justin Wise, and Jamie Bennett; seven great- grandchildren, Jalin Earl, Kaylia Earl, Koyes Reedy, Baylor Reedy, Bouldyn Reedy, Bryson Wise and Cullen Wise.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Glenn Earl (1999); son, Phil Earl (1997); son-in-law Randy Rickey (2002); and son-in-law Joe Wise (2003).
Doris touched many lives and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11AM at the Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport.
With a reception to follow at The Boat Launch at Diamond Lake.
