Obituary: Lamanna, Gloria Olga (Amicarella)

LAMANNA, Gloria Olga (Amicarella) (Age 91) Passed away June 6, 2015 in Spokane where she was born and raised, and lived most of her life.

Born August 11, 1923 to John and Minnie (Notti) Amicarella she was the youngest of six children in a large Italian-American family.

Born at the family home in Minnehaha she grew up in the Gonzaga neighborhood attending St. Aloysius grade school, and graduating from North Central High School in 1940.

She grew up amid aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins, Colistro and DiLuzio, among whom she counted her closest friends.

Being a homemaker, her faith, her children and grandchildren, and the building of family traditions, particularly around the kitchen table, were paramount in her life.

These traditions that she passed on embodied her love and is her legacy to her family.

She was a long time active member of both St. Francis Xavier and St. Aloysius parishes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Samuel X. Lamanna, her three sisters, Nella (Tony) Galli, Rose (Ed) Caferro, Lily (Al) Stone, two brothers, Jerome (Peggy) Amicarella, Remo Amicarella, and all of her in-laws from both the Amicarella family and the Lamanna family.

Gloria is survived by her children Lynn (Stan) Baycroft, Steve (Suzanne) Lamanna, Terri (Steve) Furgason, Greg (Peggy) Lamanna, and Tom Lamanna, S.J.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Tony Baycroft, Ted (Johanna) Baycroft, Scott Baycroft, Adrienne Lamanna, Lisa (Lee) Adams, Sam Lamanna, Jamie (Jeremy) Lyerla, Joe (Cathy) Furgason, Nick (Annali) Furgason, John (Sara) Lamanna, Kit (Matt) Devita, Beth (Nick) Mason, and Tim Lamanna.

She is survived by 24 great-grandchildren and by numerous nephews and nieces who were a very important and loving part of her life.

She will be buried out of the same church where she was baptized and married.

Donations may be made to St. Aloysius Parish or the Senior Fund of the Society of Jesus Oregon Province.
