No injuries in morning rock burst
A rock burst that shook Wallace this morning occurred at the Galena Mine, but no workers were injured.
The burst occurred around 8:30 a.m. in a part of the mine that is not in production, said Heather Barnhart, a spokesman for U.S. Silver Corp., which owns the mine.
The rock burst didn’t cause enough damage to affect future production at the underground silver mine, Barnhart said. Rock bursts are sudden explosive failures in underground mines that can turn tons of rock to rubble within seconds. They occur from the rock pressure that builds up in deep underground mines in the Silver Valley, and show up as seismic activity on monitoring equipment.
