Obituary: Workman, Phyllis A.
Age 90
(Age 90) “A true Lady… with a capital L” Phyllis A.
Workman, a long- time Endicott resident, passed away on January 13, 2015 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 19, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott with a luncheon following the service.
Phyllis was born in Upton, Wyoming on December 30, 1924, the third of four children born to Phillip and Irma (Magar) Rohan.
She grew up in Gillette, Wyoming and attended the local schools, graduating high school in 1942.
Before graduating, she married E. Clifton Workman on April 5, 1942 in Gillette.
The marriage was early because Clif had joined the Army Air Corps and was being shipped overseas to fight in World War II.
The couple maintained a long-distance marriage until Clif returned home in 1945.
Upon Clif’s return the couple made their home in Gillette until 1957 when Clif’s job as a banker brought them to Mercer Island, Washington.
In 1959 they moved to Ellensburg and finally settled in Endicott in 1964.
Phyllis was the epitome of a homemaker.
She loved to cook, sew and garden and taught all three of her daughters how to master each skill.
She was a member of the Endicott Gardening Club and she and Clif were instrumental in creating the park at the south entrance to Endicott.
Her cooking skills were unmatched and she will be remembered by her family for her baked beans, a dish that has yet to be duplicated by anyone in the family.
Her other specialties, as recalled by her daughters, were her stewed tomatoes, orange rolls, sour cream raisin pie and an applesauce fruitcake that was unlike any others.
She loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs over the years.
She was also a longstanding member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott.
The most important thing to Phyllis was her family and she loved spending time with all of them.
She never held a grudge and she never had an unkind word.
Her daughters described her as “an elegant lady… that’s Lady with a capital L.” Phyllis is survived by her daughters: Pat and her husband Jim Britton of Colfax; Jeanne Workman of Endicott and Karen Jackson of Endicott; six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, E. Clifton Workman in 2008; her parents and siblings and one great-granddaughter.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Whitman Hospital and Medical Center for their excellent care of Phyllis during her most recent time there.
Everyone was so kind and made a difficult time as comfortable as it possibly could be.
For that reason, the family requests memorial contributions in Phyllis’s honor be made to the Whitman Hospital Foundation.
Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
