Obituary: Roll, Gloria Jean (Purdy)

Age 82

ROLL, Gloria Jean (Purdy) Born June 17, 1932, passed away peacefully at her home on February 18, 2015.

Anyone that knew Gloria or just met her would always say she is so sweet, kind, and always had a big smile on her face.

She didn’t have a mean bone in her body.

Gloria grew up in Spokane, graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, she worked a few jobs as a young woman, then met the love of her life Fred, and later moved to Elk, WA.

She spent her life being the best housewife and mom anyone could ever ask for.

She loved baking, cleaning and taking care of her family.

Always had fresh baked goodies in the house, and everything ironed, (even the sheets on the bed).

Fred and Gloria recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Fred and Gloria’s two daughters, Connie and Mindy, shared the best times growing up at their lake cabin on Cocolalla Lake, ID, where she was even known to skinny dip at times when it got dark.

She had two stepsons, Steve and Bob, she loved when they spent time with the family and always enjoyed making a huge dinner every time they came over.

She lost her oldest daughter Connie in 2008 to cancer, which broke her heart.

They are now having a beautiful reunion catching up on the time they lost together.

Still watching over Fred and Mindy everyday.

Gloria is survived by her husband Fred Roll; daughter Mindy (Jon) Boone; brothers Junior Purdy, Ray (Janice) Purdy; stepsons, Steve (Joann) Roll, Bob Roll; several nieces and nephews, and stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her daughter Connie (Roll) Simmonson, mother Lily Swanson, father Harold Purdy, daughter-in-law Kathie Roll, sister-in-law Jo Purdy.

Gloria still kept a beautiful smile on her face fighting the bad effects of alzheimers disease.

A special thanks from the family to her caregivers Becky and Jamie, and her pcp Paul Means for her care and his help and support for the family.

A very loving thanks to the best son-in-law and husband (Jon Boone) Fred and Mindy could ask for.

He has given us so much love, help and patience through the loss of Connie and mom.

We love you with all our hearts.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, at the Open Door Congregational Church, N. 205 Main St. in Deer Park.

A reception will follow.

Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery in Spokane.
