Dons win third straight, hold off Waves

Tim Derksen scored 19 points, including a tough layup with 15.7 seconds to go, and San Francisco beat Pepperdine for the seventh straight time, 56-54 on Saturday in Malibu, California.

After Derksen’s layup gave the Dons a 55-52 lead, Stacy Davis, who had 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Waves, scored underneath with 4.9 seconds left.

San Francisco went over the top on the inbounds play to Matt Glover, who was fouled, and the 48 percent foul shooter made one with 2.5 seconds left. Jeremy Major’s heave from just inside midcourt bounced off the back iron.

The Dons, who have won three straight for the first time since opening the season with three wins, shot 50 percent in the first half for a 31-19 lead but only shot 32 percent (7 of 22) in the second.

Pacific 79, Portland 77 (OT): David Taylor hit a 3-pointer to force overtime and two key baskets in the extra period to lift the Tigers over the Pilots in Stockton, California.

Taylor’s jumper with 2:12 left in overtime gave Pacific a four-point lead, and Jacob Lampkin stretched it to 74-68 with a pair of free throws 22 seconds later.

Kevin Bailey answered with the first of his three 3-pointers in the final 1:40, but Taylor pushed the lead to 76-71 with a spinning layup at 24 seconds. From there, Dulani Robinson made of 3 of 4 from the foul line to help the Tigers hold off Bailey and the Pilots.

Bailey finished with a career-high 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting and 5 of 8 from 3-point range.

Taylor finished with 18 points and Robinson added 13 points for Pacific.

Santa Clara 70, Loyola Marymount 63: Jared Brownridge scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers, and the Broncos hung on for a win over the host Lions, snapping a six-game skid.

Denzel Johnson added 13 points and Brandon Clark and Jarvis Pugh had 10 apiece as Santa Clara nearly blew a 17-point lead.
