Home robbery suspect accused of attacking 93-year-old man

A Spokane man is accused of breaking into a 93-year-old man’s home, punching him in the face and stealing his wallet. Police arrested Todd D. Simms, 46, Friday in connection with a Jan. 25 robbery. The victim, Walter Carmack told police he was at home at his apartment in Browne’s Addition when Simms knocked on the door and forced his way inside. Simms allegedly said the victim owed him money for work he had done. He said Simms then hit him in the face, causing him to bleed, and continued hitting him before noticing his wallet. Carmack uses a walker and was unable to defend himself. His face is still healing from the attack, Carmack said. He knew of Simms through his caretaker, but did not know Simms personally. Police arrested Simms after contacting a woman who used one of the credit cards he allegedly stole from the victim. She told police he was working on a house in the 2300 block of West Broadway. Simms was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and remains in jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
