Group of fires near Chelan have torched nearly 102,000 acres

Nearly 950 firefighters are working near Chelan, with the group of fires there consuming nearly 102,000 acres, fire officials there said this morning. The largest, the Wolverine fire that’s burning near Holden Village, is 30 percent contained. It has burned nearly 39,000 acres, according to local emergency management officials. The Chelan Complex fires have burned 56,500 acres. Smaller fires are burning eight miles west of Pateros, in Okanogan County, but those fires are in very steep terrain and fire behavior there is “extreme,” the briefing said. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for more than 2,700 residents in the Chelan region.
