Women’s soccer
Gonzaga senior Heather Johnson was named to the preseason All-West Coast Conference team for the second straight season.
The conference coaches picked Gonzaga to finish eighth this season. Defending conference champion, BYU, topped the poll.
Junior hockey
The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has ended its child labor investigation into the Spokane Chiefs and other junior hockey league teams in the state with no findings.
In May, legislators clarified existing law with passage of Engrossed Senate Bill 5893. The law now states that 16- to 20-year-olds on junior ice hockey teams that play in publicly owned facilities are not employees. L&I reviewed the updated language in the law, which took effect July 24, 2015, and determined it covered the central issues.
The investigation stemmed from a child labor complaint against the Western Hockey League teams in Washington, including the Chiefs, Tri-City Americans, Everett Silvertips and Seattle Thunderbirds.
