Carl Wise drives in every run as Vancouver tops Indians

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Vancouver Canadians did the Wise thing on Saturday night.

Carl Wise drove in every run – with a two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning and a two-out, two-run single in the eighth – as Vancouver defeated the Spokane Indians 3-1 to cap a three-game Northwest League series at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver won the series 2-1 to join Tri-City and Everett in a first-place tie in the North Division at 5-5. The Indians are 4-6.

Dillon Tate, the Texas Rangers’ top selection during June’s draft, made his second appearance of the season for Spokane. He pitched a perfect first inning, striking out two. His other outing was June 26, a scoreless first at Salem-Keizer.

Darius Day scored Spokane’s run in the fourth on Sherman Lacrus’ double-play grounder.

Joe Palumbo relieved for Tate and worked four innings of five-hit ball, surrendering fourth-inning doubles to Ryan Hissey and Wise.

Wise grounded his winning single to left field against Jason Richman with the bases loaded. Richman relieved Dan Scheibe (0-1) with one out and runners on second and third after an infield error.

Seth Lintz made his Indians debut, coaxing the final out in the eighth.
