New fire burning north of Spokane Valley

The Department of Natural Resources and Spokane County Fire District 9 are battling a fire on MacMahan Road east of Forker Road. The fire is currently estimated at 7-10 acres and two tanker planes dropped water on the fire before night fell. Two homes are threatened and one outbuilding was destroyed, said DNR spokesman Guy Gifford. Firefighters are attempting to put a trail around the fire. The winds have dropped and the fire is moving slowly northeast, Gifford said. No roads are closed and no evacuations have been ordered. Crews from the Spokane Valley, Spokane and Newman Lake fire departments are also assisting.
