Business owner selling Dawn of the Donut
The owner of Dawn of the Donut, a Spokane bakery that served a variety of zombie-themed baked goods, will close the business next week.
The business opened in August 2013 with a storefront at 3402 N. Division St. and a roving donut truck.
Owner Martin Judnich, who works full-time as an attorney in Missoula, said he found it too hard to maintain the business from a distance.
He announced it is closing on Sept. 14. The company’s Facebook page invites would-be buyers to contact a broker for details on a possible sale. The broker, Don Cunningham, said Judnich is offering the company’s assets and inventory for about $22,000.
“I started it because it was a fun idea and was interesting,” Judnich said. “But it takes a lot of time and effort, and it became a quality-of-life issue for me, especially trying to raise a young family,” he said.
The business has about 12 workers, Judnich said.
“It’s been profitable. If someone wants to buy it, they should contact Don Cunningham,” he said. The business had about 20 wholesale accounts as well, Cunningham said.

Apple plans to expand online security for users
NEW YORK – Apple plans to tighten its online security measures to reduce the chances of its users being victimized by intrusions like the ones that stole nude photos from actress Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrities.
CEO Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal in a story published Friday that Apple Inc. will use email and push notifications to alert the hundreds of millions of people using its services when there has been an attempt to restore their iCloud data on a new device, change an account password or log on to an account with a new device. Previously, there were no notifications for restoring iCloud data, but users did receive an email when someone tried to change a password or log in for the first time from a new device.
Apple expects to start sending the additional notifications in two weeks. The iPhone maker said the new security will allow users to change passwords to reclaim control of an account or notify Apple’s security team about a potential problem.
Solar power station project costs $1 billion
LAS VEGAS – Construction has begun on a $1 billion solar power generating station in the Mojave Desert that officials say will produce enough electricity to power about 80,000 California homes when it is completed in 2016.
The 250-megawatt project, dubbed Silver State South, will capture solar energy with panels spread across almost 4 square miles of federal land south of Las Vegas, according to a fact sheet obtained Friday from a First Solar Inc. representative.
Executives with Arizona-based First Solar and Florida-based NextEra Energy Resources put the cost of the project at $1 billion during a Wednesday ceremony at the site off Interstate 15 near the Nevada-California state line.
