Lakeside turns back Freeman

Ashley Cook-Cox scored 12 points as Lakeside started strong and held on late to defeat Freeman 55-46 in the District 7 1A title game Tuesday night in Nine Mile Falls.

The win gave the Eagles the top seed to the bi-district tournament, which starts Friday in Okanogan and Omak. Freeman secured the second seed.

Lakeside built a 25-15 lead at halftime and withstood Freeman’s comeback attempts in the final two quarters.

Shaye Swannack and Jocelyn Cook-Cox each added nine points for the Eagles (19-2).

Freeman’s Katie Vold had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sierra McGarity and Haley Burke added a combined 25 points for the Scotties (15-6).

The teams split in their two regular-season meetings, with Freeman winning 62-49 on Jan. 14 and Lakeside earning a 55-49 win on Jan. 4.

Idaho 5A Region I

Lake City 46, Post Falls 43: Hailey Jackson scored 11 points and the Timberwolves (11-11) edged the Trojans (10-12) in a loser-out game in Coeur d’Alene. Natalie Wheelock and Madi Farrell each added 10 points and eight rebounds for Lake City, which plays Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.

Great Northern

East Valley 54, Pullman 18: Alex Rankin scored 12 points and Hannah Burland added 11 as the Knights (17-3, 10-2) secured the league title with a rout of the host Greyhounds (7-13, 3-9). Pullman’s Savannah Paul tallied a team-high eight points. The District 7 2A tournament starts next Tuesday. East Valley earned a first-round bye and will host a game next Wednesday, Feb. 19.

West Valley 52, Clarkston 48: Erin Higbie scored 22 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the Eagles (13-6, 7-4) clipped the visiting Bantams (10-9, 8-3). West Valley’s Natalie Noble added 14 points, all of which came in the second half. Clarkston’s Jaclyn Meyers tallied a team-high 12 points.

Colville 52, Deer Park 38: Taryn Main and Sadie Learn scored 14 points apiece as the Indians (15-4, 9-3) used a fast start to get past the host Stags (1-18, 0-11). Tyra Brons chipped in 11 points for Colville, which outscored Deer Park 15-7 in the first quarter. Katelynn Irish led the Stags with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Idaho 1A Division I

Wallace 46, Lakeside 44: The Miners (14-3) topped the Knights (6-10) in Kellogg in the first game of a best-of-three series. The second game is tonight at Lake City High School.

Idaho 1A Division II

Clark Fork 48, Mullan 38: Lyndsie Keibert scored 22 points and Annie Wrum added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Wampus Cats beat the Tigers in a loser-out game at Lake City High School. Clark Fork will play Kootenai in a loser-out game tonight at Lake City.

Southeast 1B

Rosalia 66, Liberty Christian 40: Mackenzie Reddish’s huge night (28 points, 12 steals and 10 rebounds) helped the Spartans (10-10, 7-9) beat the visiting Patriots. Hannah Beach added eight points for Rosalia.
