Team Red rallies to win Chiefs’ Red-White Game
Zwerger, Helewka score two goals each
Team Red scored the final three goals to post a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Team White in Sunday afternoon’s Red-White Game played before 3,018 fans.
Dominic Zwerger scored two of those third-period goals, including the game-winner at 13:18. Ezra Hall knotted the score at 4-4 for Team Red at 11:36.
Jake Toporowski, son of former Chief Kerry Toporowski, also scored for Team Red as did Connor Chartier.
Team White had taken a 4-2 lead on the second of Adam Helewka’s two goals at 1:12 of the final period.
Nicholas Labossiere and Curtis Miske also scored for Team White.
Chartier and Helewka were honored as the Don Kiehl Players of the Game. Kiehl was the team’s longtime head of off-ice officials. He died in March.
The Chiefs only preseason home game will come against the Tri-City Americans on Sept. 11 at Eastern Washington’s University Recreation Center (URC).
Spokane opens the Western Hockey League regular season at Tri-City on Sept. 20 and is host to the Americans in the home opener on Sept. 27.
