Former Gonzaga forward Coleman joins NAIA powerhouse

Former Gonzaga Bulldog Gerard Coleman will play his senior season of basketball for Georgetown (Kentucky) College.

Tigers coach Chris Briggs expects Coleman to be a productive player for the NAIA program, which won the national championship two years ago.

Coleman transferred to Gonzaga from Providence, where he was a double-digit scorer for two seasons. The 6-foot-4 wing from Boston averaged six points and 1.6 rebounds for the Zags last season.

Coleman’s playing time and production decreased over the last three months of the season.

• Gonzaga forward Heather Johnson has been named to the All-West Coast Conference women’s soccer preseason team.

Johnson, from Kennewick, tied for the team lead in goals last season with six and was second on the team in scoring with 12 points. She was a second-team All-WCC pick a year ago.
