Teigen wipes out 44-year-old mark

Sophomore Chandler Teigen broke a 44-year-old meet record in the 1,600 meters with a winning time of 4 minutes, 22.63 seconds to highlight Asotin taking the first-day lead in both boys and girls competition at the District 9 2B meet in Clarkston.

Piper Loop and Cheyanne Ausman earned state berths with a 1-2 finish in the discus and the girls 800-meter relay won with a school-record effort of 1:51.45.

Softball

Melissa Creek singled down the third-base line to drive in Cierra McKewon in the bottom of the seventh inning and Touchet beat rival Colton 4-3 in a District 7 1B game in Touchet.

Mikayla Bishop struck out five, walked one and earned the win for the Indians, who advance to a loser-out, winner-to-state regional game against Cusick at noon Saturday in Medical Lake.

Jenna Moser led the way with four singles for the Wildcats, who take on St. Michael’s at noon on Saturday, also in a loser-out, winner-to-state game at Medical Lake.
