Ducks score in 9th, beat Zags

Ryan Hambright’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Oregon a 4-3 win over Gonzaga in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday night in Eugene, Ore.

Cory Lebrun, Marco Gonzales and Travis Forbes all drove in run for the Bulldogs.

GU (32-17-1) and OU (41-11) will complete the two-game set today.

• Portland (18-32) scored eight runs in the first two innings and beat Washington (19-31) 9-3 in a nonconference game in Portland, Ore.

Track and field

Gonzaga’s Lindsey Drake broke a Boppell Track record in the 800-meter run at the Whitworth Final Qualifier in Spokane.

Drake crossed in 2 minutes, 11.27 seconds.

Idaho’s Mike Marshall reached 229 feet, 1 inch to win the men’s javelin.

Marshall’s mark was three inches short of the track record.

Men’s golf

Whitworth junior Stephen Plopper shot a 74 and the Pirates are in 23rd place after the opening round of the NCAA Division III golf championships at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

Plopper is tied for 27th individually.

Whitworth’s Jesse Salzwedel shot a 77.

The Pirates are 25 shots behind leader Transylvania. The second round is today.

Women’s golf

Whitworth senior Emily Guthrie shot an 80 and is tied for 23rd place after the opening round of the NCAA Division III golf championships at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

Guthrie posted back-to-back bogies twice on her first nine holes, but regrouped and finished at 1-over par on her final nine.

The second round is today.
