Morrison hired as GU student coach

College Basketball: Former Gonzaga great Adam Morrison is taking classes at the school and expected to have a role with the basketball program.

Head coach Mark Few told CBSSports.com that Morrison will be a “student assistant. It’ll be great,” Few said. “The players really respect him.”

GU officials confirmed Morrison is enrolled in summer school. His specific duties with the basketball staff will be determined at a later date, officials said.

Morrison’s 28.1 points per game led the nation in scoring in 2006. He was selected to the All-American team and won or shared several player of the year awards. Morrison bypassed his senior season and was drafted third overall by Charlotte.

Morrison played four seasons in the NBA, two with the Bobcats and two with the Los Angeles Lakers. After playing professionally overseas, Morrison signed with the Portland Trail Blazers but was waived prior to the 2012-13 season.

Arrested Huskies will practice

College football: Washington coach Steve Sarkisian says tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and wide receiver Kasen Williams, both of whom had run-ins with the law during the offseason, will be allowed to participate when preseason practice starts next month.

Seferian-Jenkins pleaded guilty earlier this month to a charge of driving under the influence in March and is scheduled to serve a day in jail Wednesday. Washington begins practicing Aug. 5.

Williams was fined and received a misdemeanor citation after he was pulled over for speeding and investigation of driving under the influence in May.
