Bears defeat Bombers

Central Valley junior post Madison Hovren scored 28 points and the Bears held on to defeat Richland 73-68 in a nonleague game Saturday in Richland.

Hovren made nine field goals and 10 of 15 from the free-throw line.

CV had to survive a barrage of 3-pointers from the Bombers to get the win. Richland made 12 from beyond the arc.

After falling behind by five points early, the Bears (5-2) outscored the Bombers 20-10 in the second quarter to take a 33-28 halftime lead.

Central Valley’s Mariah Cunningham added 13 points, while Megan Dimmler chipped in with 10.

The high-scoring affair was the complete opposite of last year’s defensive battle against the Bombers, one in which Central Valley came out on top 42-28.

Post Falls 62, Shorewood 55: Shayna Allert and Hannah Bodman scored 12 points apiece as the Trojans (8-6) charged from behind in the second half and beat the Thunderbirds at the Archbishop Murphy tournament in Everett, Wash. Sam Runkle and Kim Reynolds added 10 points apiece for Post Falls, which erased an eight-point halftime deficit by outscoring Shorewood 34-19 in the second half.

Mt. Spokane 52, Hanford 44: Dallas Flager made all 10 of her free-throw attempts and finished with 22 points to guide the Wildcats (3-4) past the Falcons in Richland. Ashlee Pedersen added 10 points for Mt. Spokane, which went 15 of 21 from the free-throw line.

Collette Gall tallied a game-high 25 points for Hanford.

Chiawana 75, Ferris 58: The Riverhawks pulled away late and beat the host Saxons (3-4). Darbi Pink and Bradey Hodgins combined for five 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to extend Chiawana’s lead. Kaley Lenhart made six 3s and finished with a career-high 23 points for Ferris.

West Valley 66, Bonners Ferry 30: Erin Higbie scored 19 points and added six rebounds and Hallie Nordhagen chipped in 11 points as the Eagles routed the Badgers at the West Valley tournament at West Valley. The Eagles (6-2) outscored Bonners Ferry 19-4 in the first quarter and led 39-12 at the half. McKenzie MacDonald tallied a team-high eight points for the Badgers (1-7).

Timberlake 56, Cheney 33: Allison Kirby scored 23 points and Jessica Norlander added 15 as the Tigers (6-5) used a fast start to race past the Blackhawks (1-5) at the West Valley tournament. Timberlake outscored the Eagles 15-6 in the first quarter and led 29-10 at the half. Cheney was led by Shyann Morton’s 12 points.

Freeman 60, St. George’s 40: Sydney Sather scored 18 points, Katie Vold added 14 and six rebounds and the Scotties (4-3) beat the Dragons (3-7) at the Freeman tournament. Sather made two of her six 3-pointers in the first quarter as Freeman jumped out to a 19-3 lead, thanks in part to an active defense that helped create fast-break opportunities. Haley Burke and Sierra McGarity added 10 points apiece for the Scotties, while the Dragons were led by Ceci Bergquist’s game-high 22 points.

Newport 65, Springdale 44: Holly Malsbury erupted for 32 points, 12 rebounds and five steals as the Grizzlies (7-1) topped the visiting Chargers (1-9). Newport’s Emily Lewis added 20 points.

Lakeside (Wash.) 38, Chelan 25: Ashley Cook-Cox scored 12 points to guide the Eagles (8-0) past the Mountain Goats at the Chelan tournament in Chelan. Emma Stockholm tallied a game-high 13 points for Chelan.

Walla Walla 48, Colfax 31: Mikayla Ferenz scored 23 points and the Blue Devils grabbed control in the fourth and beat the Bulldogs (6-2) at the Avista tournament at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. Amara Huber tallied a team-high 20 points for Colfax.

Lewiston 63, Clarkston 37: The Bengals (8-1) opened the game on a 16-4 run and cruised past the Bantams (2-5) at the Avista tournament. Emilee Schlader scored 12 points and Lynzee Wilson added 11 for Lewiston.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 62, Royal 41: Jenna Bennett scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Mallory Kessler added 17 points as the Broncos (4-3) eased past Royal in Ritzville. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague set the tone with a 16-6 first-quarter run.

Reardan 53, Wellpinit 41: Kira Frolov scored 13 points and Maddie Johnson added nine points, eight rebounds and six assists as the Indians (2-7) dominated in the first half and held on late to beat the Redskins (3-5) at the Reardan tournament in Reardan. The Indians outscored Wellpinit 26-11 in the first half.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 51, Chewelah 47: Katie Emerson scored a game-high 16 points and the Warriors (4-3) edged the Cougars (3-6) at the Reardan tournament. Sydnie Katzer led Chewelah with 12 points.

Wilbur-Creston 57, Davenport 30: Kayley Reed scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to guide the Wildcats (9-0) past the Gorillas (4-5) at the Davenport tournament in Davenport. Wilbur-Creston took control with a 17-6 first-quarter run.

Rosalia 56, Odessa-Harrington 39: Mackenzie Reddish led all scorers with 17 points and added nine rebounds and six assists as the Spartans (4-2) topped the Titans (4-5) at the Davenport tournament. Stacey Carrothers had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Odessa-Harrington.

Republic 72, Cusick 36: Shania Graham led five players in double figures with 17 points and the Tigers (7-1) eased past the host Panthers (3-3). Savannah Bowe scored 15 points and Haley McRae added 13 for Republic, which surged after halftime. Cusick’s Naylene Andrews scored 10 points.

St. John-Endicott 51, Liberty 39: Abby Glorfield scored 15 points as the Eagles (5-2) took control in the second half and beat the visiting Lancers (4-6). Liberty was led by freshman Christine Denny with 14 points, but she was forced out of the game in the third quarter due to foul trouble. Her loss was instrumental as St. John-Endicott was able to pressure defensively en route to outscoring Liberty 30-13 in the second half. Emily Jones and Gracie Dickerson were strong on the boards with eight and six rebounds, respectively.

Asotin 58, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 18: Brielle Whittaker scored 24 points and the Panthers overwhelmed the Tigercats (1-5) at the Dayton tournament in Dayton. Asotin outscored LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 13-0 in the first quarter and led 33-8 at the half.

Oroville 53, Kettle Falls 44: The Hornets used a 17-3 second-quarter run to get past the host Bulldogs (6-3). Makayla Hall tallied a team-high eight points for Kettle Falls.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 60, Pomeroy 38: Jacey Johnson shot 12 of 23 from the field and scored 29 points to guide the Nighthawks (6-0, 3-0) past the visiting Pirates (1-3). Mackenzie Monohan tallied a team-high 20 points for Pomeroy.
