Man jailed, accused of blowing up, killing dog

A Stevenson, Wash., man who allegedly blew up his dog is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 15.

Christopher W. Dillingham, 45, is being held in the Skamania County Jail on $500,000 bail on charges of reckless endangerment and possession of an explosive device after investigators determined that he attached an explosive device to a yellow lab’s neck and detonated it.

In court documents, deputies said they found the dog, named Cabela, decapitated on Sunday, according to reports from the Columbian’s news partner, KATU-TV.

When asked if and why he had killed Cabela, Dillingham said his ex-girlfriend gave him the dog and she had “put the devil in it.”

Dillingham owns a fireworks business and operates a stand at Stevenson every year for Independence Day, said Skamania Undersheriff Dave Cox.

Deputies said Dillingham told them he made the explosive using black powder from fireworks he sold at the stand, according to KATU-TV.

Possession of an explosive device is a class A felony carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
