TV Notes: Hart hosts MTV’s annual VMAs tonight

“2012 MTV Video Music Awards” – Scandalous kisses. Sabotaged speeches. Outrageous fashion choices. Anything can happen at the VMAs and usually does. That’s why we love it so. Trying to keep a handle on all the madness during the 29th annual bash will be first-time host Kevin Hart. The list of performers includes Green Day, Pink, Alicia Keys and boy-band sensation One Direction. 8 p.m. Thursday, MTV.

SUNDAY: Archie and Meathead. Laverne and Shirley. Sam and Diane. Kirk and Spock. These and other popular pairings are celebrated in “TV’s Most Dynamic Duos: Presented by The Paley Center for Media.” Robin Roberts is our host. 9 p.m., ABC.
SUNDAY: It has been oddly mesmerizing to watch Walter White (Bryan Cranston) completely go off the deep end on “Breaking Bad.” Sadly, however, the show’s eight-episode summer run ends tonight with Walt, of course, contemplating another dangerous move. 10 p.m., AMC.
MONDAY: Road trip! “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations” launches its ninth and final season of tasty travel treats with a stop in Austin, Texas, for the South by Southwest Festival. We call shotgun. 9 p.m., Travel Channel.
MONDAY: “Coma” is a two-part thriller adapted from Robin Cook’s novel about a doctor (Lauren Ambrose) who suspects foul play at her hospital when seemingly healthy patients wind up in comas after surgery. The stellar cast includes Stephen Pasquale, Geena Davis, Ellen Burstyn and Richard Dreyfuss. 9 p.m., A&E.
MONDAY: “Girlfriend Confidential: LA” follows four longtime gal pals as they navigate the tumultuous waters of love and celebrity in the City of Angeles. The cast includes “America’s Top Model” winner and actress Eva Marcille. 11 p.m., Oxygen.
TUESDAY: Kick back and leave the cooking to television tonight as “Hell’s Kitchen” and “MasterChef” go back-to-back with the first parts of their two-part season finales. You can’t gain weight just by watching. 8 p.m., Fox.
WEDNESDAY: On “Royal Pains,” a high-strung student and her easygoing romance-novelist mother fall ill with seemingly unrelated ailments as Hank (Mark Feuerstein) scrambles to figure things out. 9 p.m., USA.
THURSDAY: It will be difficult to top the drama and sense of history of four years ago, but they’ll give it a go at the Democratic National Convention. The celebration in Charlotte, N.C. winds up with President Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. Consult your local listings for live coverage options.
FRIDAY: “Standup to Cancer” returns for its third star-studded fundraiser, airing across the television universe. Performers include Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw. 8 p.m., on various broadcast and cable networks.
SATURDAY: Missing Susan Lucci? The former soap opera diva serves as our host for a new series called “Deadly Affairs.” It offers up dramatic re-creations of real-life love triangles that ended in murder. 7 and 10 p.m., Investigation Discovery.
