A fire burned a garage and shed in Spokane Valley today, causing the closure of Valleyway for a couple of hours.
When firefighters arrived at Pines Road and Valleyway Avenue responding to a 11:27 a.m. report of a field fire, they found a detached garage, a shed and an RV burning. Winds kept the fire away from a nearby pile of old tires which, if burned, would have presented an environmental hazard, a Spokane Valley Fire department news release said.
Some fire vehicles had difficulty getting to the scene because of traffic and onlookers, the release said. Valleyway was closed from Pines to Woodlawn for about 2 hours.
One resident of the property was treated for difficulty breathing at the scene, and no firefighters were injured. Investigators are on scene to determine the cause and the extent of the damage.
