In Brief: Children’s Theatre to perform ‘Christmas Pageant’

WEST HILLS – The Spokane Children’s Theatre will perform “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” in the Spartan Theatre at Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. Other performances are Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.; Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 at 1 and 4 p.m.; Dec. 10 at 1 and 4 p.m.; and Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. The Dec. 10 performances will be signed for the deaf.

Military families to receive gift cards

RIVERSIDE – The Kalispel Tribe, Northern Quest Casino and Operation Spokane Heroes will spread holiday cheer to local military families on Wednesday at the Central YMCA Comstock Room, 930 Monroe St., at 1:30 p.m.

Local military families will receive holiday gift cards, allowing them to purchase food and toys. The Kalispel Tribe, Northern Quest and OSH will present the gift cards to Col. Paul Guemmer, commander of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base, along with other senior representatives of other branches of the military, who will give the gift cards to military families.

Free Holy Names concert is Dec. 4

WEST HILLS – The Holy Names Music Center will hold the third annual Ave Marie concert on Dec. 4 at the Convent of the Holy Names, 2911 W. Fort Wright Drive, at 3 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Accordion group plans performance

MANITO/CANNON HILL – The Spokane Accordion Ensemble will start off the holiday season with a Christmas concert on Dec. 6 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., at 7 p.m.

Dec. 9, 10 concerts for Gonzaga choir

LOGAN – The Gonzaga University annual Candlelight Christmas concert will be Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 330 E. Boone Ave.

“In Sweet Joy” will be directed by Timothy Westerhaus, Gonzaga’s director of choral activities, and will include 105 singers from Gonzaga’s four choirs. The concert includes English, French, and German carols as well as unique works from South Africa and Christmas Gospel. The Gonzaga Brass Quintet will accompany the choir.

Ceremony honors military veterans

MEDICAL LAKE – Those who have fought and served in the U.S. military will be honored at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Road, on Dec. 10 at noon with “Wreaths Across America.”

The ceremony will include a presentation by the Color Guard, prayer, rifle salute, wreath-laying and taps.

Salvation Army seeks donations

SPOKANE – Help families in need this holiday season with the Salvation Army’s “Adopt a Family” program. The program serves recently homeless families that have spent time either in the Salvation Army or in the transitional housing program, Stepping Stones.

Food and presents will be delivered to the Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave., five days before Christmas, where Salvation Army staff will arrange delivery for each adopted family.

SPOKANE – Spokane Parks and Recreation now has preseason summer aquatics passes for sale.

Cost for season passes are $39.95 for children, $79.95 for adults and $159.95 for families.
