Defense keys Blackhawks past Indians

Led by its strong start and stifling defense, Cheney got the best of Colville on Friday night.

The Blackhawks jumped ahead 14-4 in the first quarter and beat the Indians 59-38 in a nonleague game at Colville.

Eric Igbinoba made three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead Cheney (3-1), which forced Colville (3-2) into 25 turnovers.

Matt Hubbard led the Indians with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Post Falls 45, Pullman 37: Michael Hillman had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Trojans (2-0) past the host Greyhounds (1-1). Seth Anderson and Marcus Colbert each added 11 points for Post Falls. Austin Drake led Pullman with 15 points and seven boards.

Clarkston 60, Sandpoint 31: The Bantams (3-0) slammed the door on the Bulldogs (1-4) in the second half and cruised to a win over Sandpoint in the Pendleton tournament. Drew Adams had 15 points, DePaul Blunt had 13 and Kage Sobotta added 10 for Clarkston. Jackson Olin’s 16 points led the Bulldogs. Clarkston plays Pendleton for the tourney title today.

Deer Park 69, Newport 60: Zach Mohr hit five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points as the Stags (3-0) remained unbeaten with a win over the host Grizzlies (3-1). Blake Starbuck added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Stags. Jake Wiley led Newport with 22 points.

Lakeside 63, Mullan 18: The Knights (3-0) jumped ahead in the first quarter and never looked back in a win over the Tigers (0-2) at the North Star tournament in Plummer. Damon Flemming-Soto had a game-high 14 points for Lakeside, which forced Mullan into 22 turnovers. All of Flemming-Soto’s points came in the first quarter, which Lakeside won 28-2.

The Knights will play Wallace tonight for the tournament title and Mullan will play Kootenai for third place.

Wallace 68, Kootenai 52: Tony Branz and Casey McKinnon scored 13 points each as the Miners (1-1) beat the Warriors (0-3) in the North Star tournament. Tyler Beard tossed in 11 points and Andrew Brackebush added 10 for Wallace.

Odessa-Harrington 78, Mansfield 47: The host Titans (1-2) took advantage of the short-handed Kernels for their first win of the year. Markus Smith had 16 points and Justin Hunt added 15 for Odessa-Harrington.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 66, Clark Fork 21: The Panthers (2-2) hit 10 3-pointers and eased to a win over the visiting Wampus Cats (1-2). Bryan Smith scored a game-high 26 points and Jacob Shapiro had 15 for Coeur d’Alene Charter.

Bi-County 2B

Northwest Christian 75, Kettle Falls 17: The Crusaders (4-0, 2-0) put the game away early in a win over the visiting Bulldogs (1-3, 0-2). Kwinn Hanson had 18 points and five rebounds, Dakota Winward had 15 points and Reuben Clark tossed in 14 for Northwest Christian. The Crusaders led 46-9 at halftime.

Liberty 68, Springdale 51: Efficient free-throw shooting helped the Lancers (2-2, 1-1) beat the host Chargers (2-1, 0-1). Liberty made 27 of 36 free throws, including 11 of 16 in the fourth quarter. Darien Rhoads tossed in a game-high 26 points, Match Burnham had 16 and Dylan Salsbury added 14 for Liberty. Deylin Peone scored 16 points for Springdale.

Davenport 64, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 50: The Broncos (2-2, 0-1) couldn’t overcome a slow start and fell to the host Gorillas (3-0, 2-0). Davenport outscored Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 16-3 in the first quarter. Cole Evers had 17 points, Wyatt Evers had 16 and Joey Gunning had 15 to lead Davenport. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was led by Dylan Hartz’s 12 points.

Panorama League

Columbia 45, Curlew 44: Dustin Wyborney made 1 of 2 free throws with 14 seconds to play as the Lions (1-2, 1-0) opened league play with a win over the host Cougars (1-3, 0-1). Curlew had a chance at the buzzer, but the short shot didn’t go down. Wyborney finished with a game-high 20 points and Dominick Marquez added 19 for Columbia. Jamie Zerck had 19 points to lead Curlew, but missed some action in the second half because of foul trouble.

Cusick 73, Inchelium 38: Alec Bluff led four players in double figures with 24 points as the Panthers (2-1, 2-0) dumped the visiting Hornets (0-3, 0-1). Bluff added eight rebounds and five steals. Thomas Cohen scored 13 points and Sam LeaderCharge added 12 for Inchelium.

Wellpinit 73, Republic 22: The Redskins (1-1, 1-0) did everything they wanted in a win over the host Tigers (0-4, 0-1). Greg Wynecoop scored 24 points and A.J. Kieffer and Brodie Ford added 16 for Wellpinit.

Northport 37, Selkirk 24: The Mustangs (4-1, 1-0) forced host the Rangers (0-5, 0-1) into 37 turnovers and cruised to the win in Ione. Jeremiah Johnson and Josh Konkler had 10 points apiece for Northport.

Southeast 1B League

Rosalia 55, Touchet 35: Craig Nelson scored 17 points, David Littleton had 16 and Damian Loucks had 15 as the Spartans (2-1, 1-0) topped the host Indians (1-1, 0-1). Eric Hines led Touchet with 10 points.
