Rambo leads Bullpups to victory
Jenn Rambo’s three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth led to a four-run inning, and Gonzaga Prep scored six more runs in the sixth to topple the Greater Spokane League’s top softball seed, Mead (16-2), 11-7 Tuesday at G-Prep.
Rambo added another hit and two runs for the Bulldogs (9-8), who withstood six runs by the Panthers after the fourth inning to hand Mead its second loss this season.
In other GSL games, Richael Paxson went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs as University (14-2) hammered out 11 hits, beating host Rogers (5-12) 15-1 in five innings. … Kilee Brown doubled and homered while driving in four runs and North Central (9-8) scored nine runs in the first inning, outslugging Shadle Park (7-10) to win 20-16 at SP. Alana Norman and Elisabeth Roginski combined for nine hits, seven RBIs and six runs for the Highlanders. … Ericka Santarossa surrendered just two hits, earning the shutout victory over East Valley (6-10) as Ferris (6-12) won 3-0 at EV. Tiffany Lucas had 14 strikeouts for the Knights in the loss. … Rachel Head homered and finished with a pair of RBIs and Kendall Pavey had six strikeouts over seven innings to lead Lewis and Clark (8-9) to a 9-6 victory over Central Valley (6-10) at Hart Field.
•After falling 5-3 to Post Falls (11-6, 4-4) in the opener of its Inland Empire League 5A doubleheader, host Coeur d’Alene (19-4, 6-3) received seven strong innings from Lindsey Scholwinski to win the second game 9-1. Jessica Lupiacci and Kyeli Parker combined for five hits and five runs for the Vikings in the second game.
•Nicole Cameron had three hits, including a triple, and host Timberlake (9-8, 7-1) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to finish off Priest River (4-10, 3-5) early in Intermountain League action, 22-12 in Spirit Lake.
Baseball
Nick Motsinger had two hits and two RBIs, Thomas Wakem added two doubles and two RBIs and University (11-6) knocked off Rogers (2-16) 13-3 in five innings in GSL action at U-Hi.
Garrett Harris had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Pirates, who could only manage three runs on four hits against the Titans’ Tyler Crawford.
•Devon Austin finished with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs and Coeur d’Alene (19-7, 8-3) pounded Post Falls (3-13, 0-10) during their IEL 5A doubleheader, tallying 29 runs on 25 hits over both games, winning 15-0, 14-0 in Coeur d’Alene.
•Curt Peterson allowed two runs on four hits in five innings and had three hits and two runs scored as Pullman (10-6, 9-3) completed the sweep of Riverside (4-14, 2-10), winning 9-2 after taking the opener 6-3 in Great Northern League action in Pullman. Brett and Jeremy Druffel combined for 11 strikeouts in the first game, with Jeremy earning the win in relief.
With the sweep, the Greyhounds sit two games back of first-place Cheney.
The Greyhounds and Blackhawks close the season with a doubleheader Thursday in Pullman.
•Ben Fisher had three hits, including a double and a home run, and pitched four innings in relief to pick up the win as Sandpoint (8-7, 3-2) knocked off Moscow (4-13, 1-2) 10-6 in IEL 4A action in Moscow.
•Kyle Bradbury had two hits and three RBIs and hit the game-tying home run in the seventh inning as Priest River (12-9, 8-3) scored three in the seventh to upend host Timberlake (10-6, 8-3) 8-6 in IML play in Spirit Lake.
With one game remaining, the Spartans moved into a tie for first place with the Tigers.
Each team plays St. Maries in its finale, with the Tigers playing Thursday and the Spartans finishing Friday.
Elsewhere, Bubba Pugh went 3 for 4 and Zach Lehman added a two-run double during a four-run third inning and St. Maries (8-12, 7-3) held off host Bonners Ferry (3-13, 2-8) 7-6.
Boys soccer
Chris Fitzner’s unassisted goal in the 54th minute snapped a 1-1 tie and Cheney (14-1, 13-0) held on to edge Clarkston (6-8-1, 5-8) 2-1 in Great Northern League action in Clarkston.
Austin Durfee tied the game in the seventh minute after a goal from Cheney’s Dan Iginoba, but the Bantams did not score again.
In other Great Northern League games, after both teams nearly went scoreless throughout regulation, Garrett Lawson slotted home a 76th minute corner kick from Gabe Lossurdo to lift Medical Lake (11-3-1, 10-3) over West Valley (7-8, 5-8) 1-0 at ML. … Kevin Spangenberg notched his third goal of the game in the 88th minute of the second overtime to lead Pullman (10-5, 10-3) to a 4-3 victory over visiting Deer Park (8-6, 7-6). Spangenberg scored his first two goals in the second half, the second one in the final minute of regulation to send the game to overtime. … Bewey Bender scored the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute on a free kick to give Riverside (2-13, 2-11) a 2-1 win against Colville (2-13, 0-13) in Riverside.
