Library needs reliable funding

The Spokesman-Review

I want to give a big thank you to Jim Kershner for his column on the library (June 5). I wanted to send a nasty gram to the mayor for jerking the library around in the budget. But Mr. Kershner said it so much better than I could.

We need our libraries to be open all the time, year after year. We need a different way to fund the library so that it is not at the mercy of the mayor and City Council. How do we accomplish this? With property taxes? Certainly we know what happens when funds come from the city’s general fund.
