Thomas, Seahawks reach deal

Rookie safety Earl Thomas is now a member of the Seahawks, having signed his contract Sunday morning. Now Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is wondering why tackle Russell Okung isn’t too.

Okung, the No 6 overall pick, is still unsigned, so while fans cheered on Thomas during his first practice, Carroll seemed irritated that the team and Okung’s representation hadn’t yet been able to come to an agreement.

“It’s a concern for him every day,” Carroll said. “The stuff that a rookie misses in these days is immeasurably marked against him. Russell, like Earl, wants to be out here, but this is really hard on him. We just keep moving and are working at it. We’re not worried about that part of it on our end of it, but I feel bad for Russell right now.”

As for Thomas, the 21-year old seemed relieved to be back with his teammates after waiting out the negotiation process.

“It was a dream,” he said of signing his contract. “It took a little while; at least I beat Russell in here. It’s just a dream come true and I’m happy for my family and all of Orange, Texas, back home.”

Thomas, who at 5-foot-10, 202-pounds, has to live with the label of “undersized safety,” seemed eager to show his physical side with the team wearing full pads. On one play, he gave a solid pop to tight end John Carlson, who goes 6-5, 251, breaking up a potential completion.

Revis holding out

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is holding out from training camp, locked in a contract dispute with the team.

Revis did not report with the rest of his teammates Sunday as they arrived for the start of the camp.

Revis did not take the conditioning test with the rest of his teammates at the Jets’ facilities in Florham Park, N.J.

In a statement issued by his agents, Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod, they said they waited until the last minute to try and get something done.

They added “Darrelle will not be in camp.”

Kris Jenkins, the hefty defensive tackle for the New York Jets, won a weight-loss competition with coach Rex Ryan and right tackle Damien Woody, shedding 33.6 pounds and showing up at training camp at 359 pounds.

Jenkins has been using Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet since May to help him lose the weight. Woody finished second by dropping 26.2 pounds to report at 340, while Ryan was down 20 since issuing the challenge to the two players.
