Zags overrated again
I’ve been following the Zags for a few years, and I cannot recall another team that is so consistently overrated.
(Coach) Mark Few may dislike the term “midmajor,” but Gonzaga is exactly the type of team the phrase was coined for. They are an entertaining squad without the talent or confidence to beat top-notch opponents.
Gonzaga follows the same script every year: They get into the NCAA by virtue of winning one of the weakest conferences in the country, and then they lose in the first or second round – not only lose, but they choke, as with Dan Dickau against Wyoming, with Adam Morrison against UCLA, and earlier this year against UConn. Folding in crunch time of a game has almost become a trademark.
By the time the 2009 Sweet 16 rolls around, the Zags will be watching at home again.
