Neitzel, No. 10 Spartans survive late Missouri surge

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Drew Neitzel made a late 3-pointer and hit two free throws with 2.4 seconds left, finishing with 21 points to help No. 10 Michigan State survive Missouri’s relentless defensive pressure in an 86-83 victory Monday night in the semifinals of the CBE Classic at Kansas City, Mo.

After Neitzel seemingly put the game away for the Spartans (3-0) with a 3-pointer with less than 2 minutes remaining, Missouri’s Stefhon Hannah hit an off-balance 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds left that cut the Spartans’ lead to 84-83 before Neitzel hit the game-winning free throws.
