EWU unveils new look

Woodward’s $2 million project all but completed for opener

The donor suites and media center at Eastern Washington’s remodeled Woodward Field will be all but done when the Eagles kick off against Central Washington tonight.

“It will be right up against Friday night, but we will have it done with the exception of minor things the public won’t even notice,” EWU athletic director Scott Barnes said. “The only exception is the stair towers won’t be painted.”

Also missing are a couple of speaker poles, “on the way from West Virginia, I think by way of slow boat,” he added.

Speakers will be on scissor lifts for the 6 p.m. home opener.

Otherwise the nearly $2 million project is done.

The landscaping on the north end is a separate project and is on time. Everything should be done except hydroseeding and planting.

There is a new bleacher just off the north end zone, which Barnes expects to be prime seating for two reasons.

“One is the level. It starts 5 feet in the air and goes to 24 feet, so you’ve got a really great view of things,” he said. “Second, those are the only seats inside the track, so you’re close up to the action.”

A ceremony at 3 p.m. will officially dedicate the new facilities. The event will take place behind the new facility at the West entrance to Woodward Field. Tours of the building will start at approximately 3:30. A game ticket to the EWU-CWU game is required.
