Age
: 25
Birthplace: Lewiston, Missouri, currently lives in Spokane
Kind of art
: Metal
Training: On the job, apprenticing in fields from fiber optic lighting to metalworking.
Day job
: “Art is my day job,” says Biggs, owner of Ores, a metal working company. He crafts furniture, metal sculptures and custom architectural features for homes and buildings.
Influences: “Growing up in Spokane,” Biggs said, “many of my influences are local artists, including Harold Balazs and Steve Adams.” He also admires the metal humanoid sculpture by Cory Fuhr of British Columbia and the furniture designs of Gulassa & Co., Inc. of Seattle.
Talk a little about your work: “My art takes a functional form such as a piece of furniture or a sign. I enjoy making things that move, light up and are useful; all while looking interesting,” Biggs said. “Much of my recent work combines different materials with metal, making it more adaptable for its purpose. Often, I will take something simple like a chair or a lamp and turn it into something bizarre.”
Where can we see your work? “My work is scattered across downtown,” he said. He’s designed signs for Boo Radley’s, Mizuna restaurant, Pilgrims Nutrition and The Daily Grind. A metal bench, made for the Davenport District, sits near Slick Rock on First Avenue at Lincoln Street.

Describe the work in your show: Functional, metal-based artistic furniture designs. “Some pieces are complicated and industrial, while others are simple and earthy,” Biggs said.
