Kieran Barton’s penalty kick in the 84th minute sent the Spokane Shadow to a 3-2 soccer victory on the road at Yakima.

The Shadow, coming back from a loss in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night in Spokane, bounced back against the Reds to keep them undefeated in the Premier Development League at 6-0-1.

Shadow head coach Stuart Saunders said he was pleased with the way his team rebounded from the defeat against Sacramento, which came on a penalty kick in overtime.

“Coming off a loss I was pretty impressed,” Saunders said in a Shadow press release. “The first half we came out strong, playing a good possession game and maintained ball control.”

Brett Hite scored his eighth goal to tie the match at 2-2 with a shot in the 75th minute off of an assist by midfielder Tim Seely. Hite put the ball in the top shelf and froze Yakima’s keeper, Cris Eylander.

“Sometimes it felt as if both teams gave away some opportunities, but we came out of the locker room with aggression in the second half to put us over the top,” Saunders said.

Spokane’s initial goal came on Dustin Allberry first score of the season in the 35th minute, off of a Ben Sawyer assist. The Shadow outshot Yakima 6-5.

The Shadow play the Cascade Surge in Salem, Ore., on Sunday.
