Longtime Attorney Will Seek Judgeship
Veteran Spokane attorney Harold D. Clarke III wants to put the title “judge” in front of his name.
Clarke, son of retired Spokane County Superior Court Judge Harold Clarke, announced Monday he’ll run for the District Court seat being vacated by Daniel Maggs.
Maggs, 65, has announced he will retire at the end of the year after 20 years on the bench.
Clarke, 43, is the only announced candidate for Maggs’ seat. The filing deadline is July 31. The primary election is Sept. 15.
Clarke has served as a District Court pro-tempore judge, filling in when needed by the court. He’s a 1979 graduate of Gonzaga University Law School and has practiced law here for 18 years.
For the past seven years, he has also been a member of the state’s Judicial Conduct Commission.
