Russel Helps Keep Ritzville Perfect

With their lengthy winning streak in peril Thursday, Ritzville turned to veteran Shannon Russel.

Russel scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including the senior’s second 3-pointer, to rally the top-ranked Broncos to a 51-46 win over eighth-ranked Wilbur-Creston in the Bi-County League tournament championship game at Reardan.

Ritzville (22-0) has won 32 consecutive games since losing to W-C at the end of last year’s regular season. The Broncos open play at the District 7-B tournament at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Spokane Falls Community College against Panorama League No. 4 Wellpinit.

W-C, as Bi-Co No. 2, opens district at 6 p.m. Monday at Spokane Community College against Panorama No. 3 Northport.

Amanda Scoles hit 6 of 10 from the field and Mandi Walters added 5-of-6 shooting from the line as the Falcons (15-8) defeated the Gorillas (9-14) at Reardan to earn the third seed to district.

The Falcons’ district opener is at 6 p.m. Monday at SFCC against Panorama No. 2, either Selkirk or St. George’s, who meet tonight in the league title game.

To reach district Davenport must defeat Panorama No. 5 Northwest Christian (10-14) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane High. The winner advances as Bi-County No. 4 and opens district against the Panorama champion.
