The Cost Of Kashmir’s Separatist Movement

Associated Press

More than 11,000 homes, shops, schools and government buildings have been damaged in fires in Kashmir’s 7-year-old separatist movement.

Government data indicates that about 6,500 homes, 2,000 shops and 1,600 government offices have been burned since 1989, Press Trust of India reported Friday. More than 900 schools, bridges and shrines have also been destroyed.

Kashmiri separatists accuse government troops of starting the fires to give them a bad name.
