State Optometry Group Honors Richard Ryan Jr.

Dr. R. Richard Ryan Jr. received the Continuing Award from the Washington State Optometric Recognition Awards at its annual AOA Congress in Portland.

The award is given to doctors of optometry who completed 50 credit hours of continuing education in their field in a year’s time and who previously received their Initial Optometric Recognition Award, requiring 150 hours of approved continuing education.

Ryan was the only doctor of optometry from Spokane to be honored; there were more than 500 eligible.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Paul Woodworth,son of Betty Woodworth of Kettle Falls, Wash., received the Navy Good Conduct Medal for honest and faithful service during a three-year period.

Woodworth maintained a satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the entire period. He also received a Letter of Commendation for his superior knowledge and initiative, going beyond his regular duties to complete projects and improve his unit’s readiness.

He is a 1983 graduate of Kettle Falls High School.

Marlin Clark, director of The Career Center at Gonzaga University, was selected by the Western Association of Colleges and Employers as director of internal communications. She will serve as publisher and editor of Connection, the group’s western regional publication.
