Oregon Trail Kiosks Open At Rest Areas

From Staff And Wire Reports

Three new kiosks that have information on them about the Oregon Trail are open in southeast Idaho and at the Snake River View rest area.

The kiosks in southeast Idaho are at the Massacre Rocks and Coldwater Hill rest areas on Interstate 86 between Burley and Pocatello. The kiosk at the Snake River View rest area is on the Idaho/Oregon border about a mile east of Ontario, Oregon.

Five interpretive signs giving information about the Oregon Trail are included in each kiosk. Each sign explains particular aspects of the Oregon Trail that are specific to the region the kiosk is in.

The text at each kiosk contains an overall summary of the Oregon Trail. Historical accounts and pictures accompany each sign. The accounts and pictures are from original travelers of the trail.

The sign text was prepared by the Idaho State Historical Society.
