Rosetta Solberg Spokane
Service for Rosetta Solberg, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Solberg, who died Monday in Bothell, Wash., was born in Willow City, N.D.
She had lived in Sandpoint and from 1944 to 1987, lived in Spokane.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Solbert was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Harold Solberg, died in 1976.
She is survived by one son, Andy, Solberg of Woodinville, Wash.; one daughter, Alice Bottini of Alameda, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Eileen Atwood Spokane
Graveside service for Eileen Atwood, 76, is set for 2 p.m. Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born in England, Mrs. Atwood died Tuesday.
She had lived in Spokane for 20 years and was homemaker.
She was a member of the Sinto Senior Center.
Mrs. Atwood is survived by one stepson, Richard “Dick” Atwood of Spokane.
Mary Lavender Spokane
Service for Mary Lavender, 78, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lavender, who died Saturday at home, was born in Mandan, N.D.
She had lived in Spokane for 20 years and worked as a waitress.
Her husband, Ray Lavender, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, William Martin of Helena, Larry Martin of Centralia, Wash., and James Martin of Spokane; three sisters, three brothers, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Sam Slate Cataldo, Idaho
Service for Sam Ray Slate, 67, will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg. Burial will follow at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Pinehurst, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service of Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Slate, who was born in Maysville, Okla., died Sunday at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.
He moved to North Idaho in 1992 from California and was a building contractor.
He married Virginia Fisher in Sacramento, Calif., in 1951.
Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Dennis Slate of California and Don Slate of Cataldo; one daughter, Deborah Roberge of California; one brother, George Slate of California; three sisters, Helen Gibson and Lawanna Wilton, both of California, and Norma Tyson of Cataldo; and eight grandchildren.
Art Norlen Cataldo, Idaho
Memorial service for Art Norlen will be at Lake City Senior Center Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Norlen, who died Aug. 30, was born in Sweden and immigrated to the United States in 1926. He moved from Montana to North Idaho, where he had lived for 60 years.
He served in the Air Force.
Mr. Norlen worked as a logger and miner in Idaho and operated the Shoe Box in Coeur d’Alene until he retired in 1973.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Norlen; one daughter, Dee Coker; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Charles Stephenson Spokane
Memorial service for Charles S. Stephenson, 79, is planned for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Born in Vernon, British Columbia, Mr. Stephenson died Monday at Sullivan Care Center.
He worked for Cominco American Inc. in Trail, British Columbia, and transferred to Spokane in 1956.
He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eileen; one son, Lorne Stephenson of Loon Lake, Wash.; one daughter, Lois Robinson of Spokane; two sisters, June Phillips of New Westminster, British Columbia, and Dolly Fedorick of Hope, British Columbia; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Beatrice Wells Spirit Lake, Idaho
Service for Beatrice Virginia Wells, 69, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Olympic Funeral Home in Tumwater, Wash. Burial will follow at Olympic Memorial Gardens.
A former Spokane resident, Mrs. Wells died Sunday at home.
She was born in Fort Smith, Ark.
She had worked as a bookkeeper and had been a tax examiner for the Department of Revenue before retiring in 1986.
Mrs. Wells had lived in Arkansas and Los Angeles before moving to Spokane.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Southern Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph; two sons, David and Ralph Wells Jr., both of Olympia; one brother, Robert Webb of California; four sisters, Eva Lovett, Grace Larson and Joanne Schmaltz, all of California, and Patsy Webb of Colorado; and six grandchildren.
Lewis Pinney Spokane
Memorial service for Lewis A. Pinney, 93, will be at 2 p.m. today at Pines Mausoleum. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pinney who died Monday, was born in St. Anthony, Idaho. He worked for Cascade Corp. and retired in 1967.
He moved to Spokane 20 years ago.
His wife, Leona Pinney, died in 1980.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Bair of Spokane; one son, Jack Pinney of Castle Rock, Colo.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Roy Pietz Bellevue, Wash.
Family service will be held for Roy C. Pietz. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pines Cemetery in Spokane. Green Funeral Home in Bellevue is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pietz, 86, died Sunday in Bellevue, where he had lived since 1983.
He was born in Leeds, N.D.
He worked for the Forest Service in North Idaho, and he and his wife, Irene, settled in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1940. In 1960 the family moved to Spokane. He moved to Bellevue and in 1986 retired. He later worked in real estate.
His wife preceded him in death.
Mr. Pietz is survived by three sons, David Pietz of Bay Village, Ohio, Ken Pietz of Houston and Wayne Pietz of Bellevue; two sisters, Anna Powell of San Diego and Ruth Kingen of Aloha, Ore.; and five grandchildren.

Violet Clothier Spokane
Memorial service for Violet A. Clothier, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Central Grange. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Clothier, who died Monday, was born in Coldwater, Kan.
She graduated from school and taught in country schools in Kansas until she moved to Spokane in 1940.
She was a member of the Orchard Prairie Homemakers Club, the County Council of Homemakers Clubs and the League of Women Voters. She volunteered with Orchard Prairie School.
Mrs. Clothier is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter; two daughters, Linda Sharman and Lorna St. John, both of Spokane; three sons, Bill Clothier of La Conner, Wash., Terry Clothier of Boise and Kelly Clothier of Spokane; two brothers, Arthur Wood of San Carlos, Calif., and Paul Wood of Spokane; and 13 grandchildren.

Burton Level Davenport, Wash.
Service for Burton Level, 93, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Davenport.
Mr. Level, who was born in Davenport, died Tuesday.
He farmed in the Mondovi area and retired and moved into Davenport.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport.
He is survived by one nephew, Burton Smith of Ontario, Ore.
