Athlete Faces 2nd-Degree Rape Charge

From Staff And Wire Reports

Eastern Washington freshman linebacker Tony Ledenko has been charged with second-degree rape and has been suspended from the football team pending the case’s outcome, authorities said Friday.

Ledenko, 19, allegedly attacked his female victim early Oct. 14 in Morrison Hall, a campus dormitory. He was released from the Spokane County Jail on $50,000 bond after surrendering last Friday afternoon, campus police Lt. Tom McGill said.

“We had quite a few people to interview,” McGill said. “We got a warrant on Friday (Oct. 20), and they made arrangements to have him surrender himself at the jail at 1 p.m.”

Ledenko is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound redshirt from Cashmere (Wash.) High School, where he was a four-year honor student.

Authorities were unsure whether three people who may have witnessed the alleged attack would be charged.

No court dates have been set.
