Field Narrows In District 9-B Tournament

Southeast B

The long haul to advance in the District 9-B Tournament continued Thursday with four teams extending their seasons and four others reaching the end.

The Tekoa-Oakesdale and GarfieldPalouse girls, and the Asotin and LaCrosse-Washtucna boys won loser-out games at Washington State University’s Friel Court.

The T-O and Gar-Pal girls play today at noon, with the winner advancing to Saturday’s game with the Pomeroy/St. John-Endicott loser. The Asotin and L-W boys play at 1:30 for a shot Saturday at the Dayton/Gar-Pal loser.

GIRLS

Tekoa-Oakes. 56, Asotin 49

Jennifer Hay scored all 14 of her points in the second half as the Nighthawks (17-9) defeated the Panthers (14-9) after trailing by five entering the final quarter.

Hay scored nine during T-O’s 24-point fourth quarter. Teammate Brandi Peringer scored 17 and had a pair of secondhalf 3-pointers. Tennail Wilcox led balanced Asotin with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Michelle Kennedy had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the Vikings (15-8) made 18 of their first 27 shots from the floor to oust the Irish (17-8).

Kari Gordon scored 23 for DeSales, which made 24 of 35 free throws.

Cory Goll scored six of his 17 in the first quarter, and Troy Nealey scored seven of his 16 in the final quarter as the Tigercats (15-10) sent home the Wildcats (12-13).

Nealey made 10 of 12 free throws. Colton’s Terry Busch scored 20 and went 6 of 6 from the line.

Russ Farmer made two 3-pointers during the pivotal second quarter and scored a game-high 17 as the Panthers (14-9) ousted the Cardinals (12-13).

Asotin’s Rob Teasley scored 10 of his 15 during the second quarter. Waitsburg’s Ellis Erickson scored 14.
