Eldon Haley Moses Lake

Memorial service for Eldon LaVerne Haley, 70, will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Camas (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Haley, who was born in Gooding, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. Following the war he was a school teacher for three years.

He lived in Spokane and served as a minister in the Disciples of Christ church for 23 years. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Ore., for more than seven years.

He moved to Moses Lake in 1980 and retired in 1991, after ten years of service, he retired as a financial supervisor for the Grand-Adams County Community Services Office, Department of Social and Health Services in Moses Lake.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Haley of Yuba City, Calif., and Stephen Haley of Foster City, Calif.; one sister, Retta Ellsworth of Vista, Calif.; his companion, Hildegard Cummins; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lucy Grindy Spokane

Graveside service for Lucy Grindy, 94, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grindy died Thursday.

She was born in Trinidad, Colo.

She had lived in Spokane for 53 years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Stanley Grindy, died in 1966.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Collins and Stanley Grindy, both of Spokane; two daughters, Edith Nett of Grass Valley, Calif., Fran Olson of Spokane; one sister, Josephine Navarro of Rock Springs, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association Home Health Care Services.

Peter Haidey Spokane

Memorial service for Peter H. Haidey, 81, is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Haidey, who died Thursday at home, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan.

He served in World War II in the Army Transport Service.

He retired from Pacific Northwest Bell after 30 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

He had lived in Spokane for 76 years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Haidey; one daughter, Vicki Koch of Spokane; one brother, Nick Haidey of Medical Lake; one sister, Jenny Haidey of Spokane; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

David Loft Spokane

Vigil service for David J. Loft, 56, is set for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Loft, who died Thursday, was born in Cottonwood, Idaho.

He served in the Army for 18 years as an electrician. He had lived in Spokane for 24 years.

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, American Bowling Congress and Eagles Lodge No. 2.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janice; two sons, Brian and John Loft, both of Spokane; one daughter, Debra Clawson of Spokane; two brothers, Robert Loft of Spokane, and William Loft of Lenore, Idaho; three sisters, Lois Hoffman and Kaye Uptmor, both of Lewiston and Dorothy Haas of San Francisco; two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

James Alderman Medical Lake

Funeral Mass for James Alderman, 66, is planned for 11 a.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church in Medical Lake. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - Medical Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Glen Fork, W.Va., Mr. Alderman died Thursday.

He retired from the Air Force in 1968 after 22 years.

He worked for Wendle Ford and Empire Ford. In 1976, he bought the Village Tavern in Airways Heights, and later sold it. He owned Jake’s Restaurant and Bar in Medical Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Alderman; two daughters, Kerin Walters of Spokane, and Kelly Alderman of Medical Lake; four sons, John, Bob and Danny Alderman, all of Medical Lake, and Mike Alderman of Spokane; four sisters, Mary Clay of Jasper, Fla., Margaret Phillips of Liverpool, N.Y., Jean Humphries of Newport, N.C., and Phyllis Sizemore of Fairdale, W.Va., and nine grandchildren.

Charles Thostenson St. Maries

Memorial service for Charles E. “Chuck” Thostenson, 69, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the St. Maries Elks Lodge.Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thostenson, who was born in St. Maries, died Thursday.

He was raised on the family homestead on Shay Hill and graduated from St. Maries High School in 1943. He entered the Navy that same year and returned to St. Maries after his military discharge in 1946.

He married Betty Guenther in 1948 and later divorced in 1958.

He married Cheryel Frost in 1958.

Mr. Thostenson was a member of the St. Maries Elks Lodge and was past exalted ruler and served on the board of trustees. He also had memberships in the Brotherhood of Friends, the National Rifle Association, the AARP, Good Sams and was the former president of the Jaycees.

Survivors are his wife, at home; daughters, Wendy Wilks of Emida, Idaho, Marie Dymkoski of Palouse, Wash., Cherie McCall of Troy, Idaho, and Debbie Yearout of St. Maries; sister, Helen Hansen of Lebanon, Ore.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
